Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I PAIR THE HOME RTX (VIDEO)?

DOES THE HOME RTX OPERATE AS A BLUETOOTH® SIGNAL REPEATER?

Though the Home RTX is both a Bluetooth® transmitter and a Bluetooth® receiver, it can only operate as one or the other. The Home RTX is not designed to receive and transmit at the same time.

MY HOME RTX IS NOISY OR BUZZING. WHY?

The Miccus Home RTX is a high powered transmitter and receiver, and it may cause radio interference with your stereo amplifier. Try moving the Home RTX away from your audio amplifier.

The Miccus Home RTX can be powered from your computer's USB port. Should you choose to use your computer as the USB power source for your Home RTX, you may experience interference noise in your audio stream. For a number of reasons, NOT ALL USB SOURCES PROVIDE CLEAN POWER. Try using a different USB port for power or use the suppled AC to USB wall adapter.

CAN I CONNECT THE RTX DIRECTLY TO RCA SPEAKER OUTPUTS?

The Home RTX is designed to receive a signal from your stereo's auxiliary output (RCA) or your stereo's headphone output (3.5mm). Both types of outputs will feed the RTX the necessary level of audio for proper operation referred to as "line level". Though not as common, some stereo manufacturers do use RCA connectors for connecting speakers to a stereo receiver. DO NOT use RCA speaker outputs to give the RTX an audio signal. Speaker outputs are not "line level" and may damage the RTX.

Some customers have had success purchasing a "speaker to line level converter" that connects to speaker outputs and converts them to line level for use with the RTX.

MY HOME RTX SOUNDS LIKE IT'S DISTORTING. WHY?

The Home RTX may distort if you're feeding audio to the RTX directly from your stereo components; it was not designed to receive audio this way. Use a headphone jack, or a stereo auxiliary output to feed the RTX an audio signal. Standard consumer line level is rated + or - 4dB, and the RTX is rated + or -6dB. On paper, all stereo AUX outputs should feed the RTX a clean, clear audio signal. Even so, some customers have reported a distorted signal when using an auxiliary output from their home stereo receiver. In such cases, Miccus Inc. recommends purchasing a line level controller.

HOW DO I PAIR MY HOME RTX WITH A BLUETOOTH® TRANSMITTING DEVICE?

Use the following steps to pair your home RTX with an A2DP Bluetooth® Profile compatible transmitting device:

  1. Turn your RTX on with the center/power button (indicator light slowly flashes red).
  2. Press and hold the RX button for 3-5 seconds, then release (indicator light now flashes red and blue).
  3. Turn on your transmitting device and put it in pairing mode; see device specific documentation for instructions.
  4. Once the RTX is paired with your compatible Bluetooth® transmitting device, the indicator light stops flashing and lights a solid blue.

HOW DO I PAIR MY HOME RTX WITH A BLUETOOTH® RECEIVING DEVICE?

  1. Turn your RTX on with the center/power button (indicator light slowly flashes red).
  2. Press and hold the TX button for 3-5 seconds, then release (indicator light now flashes red and blue).
  3. Turn on your receiving device and put it in pairing mode; see device specific documentation for instructions.
  4. Once the RTX is paired with your compatible Bluetooth® receiving device, the indicator light stops flashing and lights a solid red.

HOW DO I PAIR TWO HOME RTX UNITS WITH EACH OTHER?

To get an extra boost in signal range, two Miccus Home RTX units can be paired with each other. Before pairing, make sure all devices you’ve paired with your home RTX units have been powered off or Bluetooth disabled.

Pairing:

  1. Disconnect both RTX units from USB power for 20 seconds or more to reset RTX memory. Then reconnect the units to USB power.
  2. Place both RTX units within inches of each other. The closer the better for pairing.
  3. Power on both RTX units by holding down the center button for 3 seconds until the light across the front of both units is blinking.
  4. Place the first RTX into RX pairing mode by pressing and releasing the RX button, indicated by red and blue flashing.
  5. Place the second RTX into TX pairing mode by double pressing the TX button, indicated by red and blue flashing.
  6. Once paired both RTX units will be lit either a solid blue (for RX mode) and a solid red (for TX mode) respectively.

Once the pairing is complete one of the RTX units can be shut down, disconnected from power, and moved to the desired use location. The other RTX must be left plugged into power in order to remember its pairing to the moved RTX. Once moved, connected and ready for use, make sure both RTX units are powered on; they should reconnected automatically.

THE RTX SEES MY SPEAKER BUT WON'T CONNECT. WHY?

There are a couple possible explanations:

  1. Your speaker may be designed for use with smartphones and tablets only. When the RTX and the speaker see each other, the RTX is blocked from connecting. For transmit mode, if required by the receiving device, the RTX negotiates a pairing code in the background so there is no need for pairing code entry.
  2. Your speaker and the Home RTX may have a Bluetooth chipset or software stack that is incompatible. In either case, feel free to reach out to Miccus customer support to see if they can help: support@miccus.com, live phone support Mon-Fri 11am-4pm EST 616-604-4449

MY HOME RTX WON'T POWER OFF. WHY?

Due to a rare chipset compatibility issue, some customers have complained they can't power off the Home RTX in TX (transmit) mode. While Miccus has no control over the Bluetooth® chipset other companies choose to build into devices, testing has revealed a best practice for addressing this issue:

1. Power off the RTX first.
2. Power off your receiving device second.
